This stunning pair of antique Art Deco bronze figurines are titled “Call to the Theatre.” The figures represent stock characters from old Italian dramas, the commedia dell’arte. The figure in the diamond-patterned clothing is Harlequin, an agile, acrobatic character with a tendency of getting wrapped up in the schemes of other characters, doing a little scheming of his own, and generally making everything more complicated while pursuing his love interest, Columbine. The character with the large buttons on his clothes is Pierrot/Pedrolino, a sad clown character, who is innocent and dreamy but can never manage to impress Columbine himself. The hats of each of the characters are topped with green feathers. A fascinating set of statues for art lovers or theater lovers!
